How a Personal Accident premium is calculated

03 Sep 2026 1 min read 1 views

Personal Accident cover pays a lump sum if an accident causes death or disablement — anywhere in the world, at any time of day, including while you are a fare-paying passenger on a scheduled airline.

Choose your benefit table

Three tables are available, and the premium follows directly from which one you pick:

  • Table A — death, permanent total and partial disablement, plus a weekly benefit while you are temporarily unable to work
  • Table B — death, permanent total and partial disablement
  • Table C — accidental death only, and by far the most economical

Your occupation class

Rates are quoted per Tk 10,000 of sum insured and vary with how hazardous your day-to-day work is:

  • Class I — office and desk work with no manual duty
  • Class II — supervisory, field or travel-based work
  • Class III — manual work, machinery or on-road duty

Be accurate here. Understating your occupation class to reduce the premium is the quickest way to have a claim disputed.

Worth knowing

Cover is available between 16 and 65 years of age. Medical expense cover can be added to a Table A policy for an extra 10% of the basic premium, and there is a minimum premium of BDT 60 on any policy.
